Ceramic drone flute

The Mayan Ceramic Flute is hand tuned to produce a double sound.  This replica ancient instrument has two flute built into one,  you can play one flute at a time or play both using one chamber as a drone or play at the same time. You can check out the sound of this particular flute in the description. This flute is made from micaceous clay looks like glitter all natural clay  from new Mexico. The flute measures approximately 7 in inches long by 3.3 inches wide, can be a bit larger. It has two ear with holes were it can be strung up like a necklace

About the building process:  

The building process: First I collect the clay and hand coil it into the shape of the Aztec Death Whistle. In order to get the feel and result of Ancient Native American pottery i use local river clay. I let the piece air dry then sand and paint the designs with natural clay pigments from different colored clays, then I further let them dry outdoor in the Sun. I then pit fire them in my studio. The color of the Aztec Death Whistle is due to the properties of the clay and fire clouding which means painted by fire. Each piece takes close to twenty days to complete These items are one of a kind artisan piece. This craft is authentic P’urepecha First Nations pottery.
