About the building process:

The building process: First I collect the clay and hand coil it into the shape of the Aztec Death Whistle. In order to get the feel and result of Ancient North American pottery, I use local river clay. I let the piece air dry then sand and paint the designs with natural clay pigments from different colored clays, then I further let them dry outdoor in the Sun. I then pit fire them in my studio. The color of the Aztec Death Whistle is due to the properties of the clay and fire clouding which means painted by fire. Each piece takes close to twenty days to complete. These items are one of a kind artisan piece. This craft is authentic Purepecha First Nations pottery.
